Since ancient times the olive branch has been recognized as a symbol of peace and goodwill, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity to welcome a new season. Students will customize their olive branch wreath to fit their own unique design aesthetic, incorporating optional Fall add-ins and ribbon. Olive branches are harvested right here in Tucson, grown without herbicides or pesticides to be woven into a thick, lush ring that dries beautifully over time and enjoyed through the Fall season.
Guests may bring wine, cocktails, etc. to enjoy in class.
Students will learn to work with live greenery to create wreaths and garland, reviewing the best types of greenery to use for long-term use, which greenery is locally available, and how to maximize greenery life. We will work primarily with metal wreath frame, wire cutters, floral wire, and glue guns. A wide assortment of embellishments will be provided to customize your wreath, including pinecones, ribbons, faux Fall flowers, leaves, pumpkins, gourds, and plants.
Upon check-in, students are provided aprons and storage for personal items before visiting the handwashing station. Refreshments will be self-served prior to settling into a thoroughly cleaned and sanitized workspace. Class will begin with a brief presentation; providing overview, background information, project relevance, and sample uses. Tools and materials will be distributed before instructor takes the class step-by-step through live demonstration. Each student will finish class with a successfully executed olive branch wreath, customized to their design aesthetic.
