Do you want to learn how to decorate cakes but not sure where to start? In this cake decorating series, you’ll learn the basics –baking tips, best frosting and buttercream recipes, proper techniques for leveling and crumb coating layer cakes, as well as the basics for cake decorating. Each class will demonstrate different decorating techniques. Although the classes are created to build on each other, they are also created as stand alone classes, appropriate for every skill level.

I.  Cake Decorating Basics with Basket of Roses Cake – students learn basket weave and how to create roses
II. Ombre Rosette Cake – students learn to pipe a cake entirely of rosettes in graduating shades of the same color
III. Character Cake – students learn to decorate a 3D character cake
IV. Cake with Trailing Garden Flowers – students learn to build a multi-layer cake, beautifully decorated with trailing flowers
V. Decorating with Chocolate Design – students learn to work with chocolate to use in cake decorating
VI. Textured Cake – students learn to use different tools to create a cake with pattern and texture
VII. Fondant Cake – Polka-dot Package – student learn to work with fondant in advanced ways to create 2-color designs
VIII. Surprise Cake – students learn how to create a cake that pours out candies when cut

What you will learn
Students will learn baking tips, buttercream basics, and proper techniques for leveling and crumb coating layer cakes. After that, we move on to easy cake decorating techniques, such as applying buttercream with a decorating bag, and using tips to create borders, flowers, and messages.

What to expect
Upon check-in, students are provided aprons and storage for personal items before visiting the hand washing station. Refreshments will be self-served prior to settling into a thoroughly cleaned and sanitized workspace. Class will begin with a brief presentation; providing overview, background information, project relevance, and sample uses. Tools and materials will be distributed before instructor takes the class step-by-step through cake decorating basics class. Each student will decorate their own cake to take home.
